For our new half term, we have started a new text, Fox. This half term, the children will be building up to writing non-fiction reports about foxes. This week, they have been immersing themselves in the text by acting out key parts of the story and working collaboratively to identify positive and negative adjectives to describe foxes.
This week in Mathematics, we have been focusing on the 3 times tables. The children have been multiplying and dividing using concrete materials and applying written methods to share, such as the number line method. All children in Year 3 are being sent home with a multiplication square. Please practise the 3 times tables with your child, as we will be moving on to another times table next week. They should be able to recite it at speed.
To conclude our topic on rocks, learners carried out a hands-on science experiment. They tested rock hardness, explored whether rocks sink or float and observed which rocks reacted with vinegar, developing their curiosity and scientific skills.
This week, learners explored chocolate by tasting and identifying different types, including milk, Ghana, white, mint and coffee. They then created a cartoon strip to show the journey of chocolate from cocoa bean to chocolate bar, developing their understanding of where chocolate comes from.

Year 3 learners have made super progress since we began our weekly French sessions at the start of the school year.
Trying to pronounce new words correctly in a foreign language can be quite daunting so it's been wonderful to see how their confidence has grown and how even the shyer members of classes are keener to have a go.
After the break, I will look forward to sharing more songs and games to build on what we have already learnt and to introduce lots of exciting new vocabulary.
Bonne Année/Happy New to you all!
In Year 3, learners have been learning to identify different Gamelan instruments and match them to their descriptions. They listened carefully to the sounds each instrument makes and discussed how they are played, such as striking, hitting, or gently tapping. Using pictures and sound clips, the class explored instruments like the gong, kendang drum, and metallophones, noticing how each one has its own unique tone and role in an ensemble. Learners then worked in small groups to match the instrument names with written descriptions, developing both their listening skills and their understanding of traditional Indonesian music.
