This week in English, we began our new book The Night Gardener. The children took part in an introductory curiosity lesson, where they predicted what the story might be about based on a selection of mysterious objects. We have since explored new vocabulary and phrases from the text, and the children have been practising how to use these words in their own sentences through engaging group activities.

In Maths this week, we have been using our number bonds to 10 to help us bridge two-digit by one-digit addition and subtraction questions. Learners explored different strategies to make calculations easier and more efficient, such as partitioning and bridging through 10.
To help improve their bridging skills in both addition and subtraction, learners should continue to practise recalling Number Bonds to 10 quickly and accurately.
If your child is confident with these, they can move on to Number Bonds to 20.
Encourage them to use their knowledge of Number Bonds to 10 to help with bigger numbers.
For example:
8 + 2 = 10 → 18 + 2 = 20
9 + 1 = 10 → 19 + 1 = 20
They can also practise bridging through 10 when adding and subtracting:
8 + 7 = (8 + 2) + 5 = 15
14 − 6 = (14 − 4) − 2 = 8
In Science this week, we started our new topic 'Plants'. The learners have explored various types of plants and identified their parts. Through exploration and collaboration, learners worked scientifically to answer different questions, such as: Do all plants have seeds? Where are the seeds? Are all plants editable? Learners also drew a scientific diagram of a plant.
This week in Enquiry Learning, our Year 2 learners have shared information about landmarks from their home countries. They have been able to explain why these places are important. We also found out that there are similar landmarks in other countries.
Well done to our learners for presenting with pride and confidence.
To support our learning on places around the world. Please could you support your child to do a 'Scavenger Hunt' by looking for things around the home that have been labelled as being from another country.
For example, on food and clothes labels - 'Made in ...'.
