This week in English, learners were introduced to Shackleton’s Journey, exploring the life and expedition of Ernest Shackleton. Through role play, discussion, and shared reading, they explored key events, developed exploration vocabulary, and gathered ideas for writing.
We focused on selecting important information and how grammar choices—particularly active and passive voice—can change meaning. Learners also explored the features of a biography and began research in preparation for writing their own.
This week in Maths, we focused on our Ratio unit. Learners explored when to add or multiply when working with ratios, developed their use of correct ratio language, and were introduced to ratio through visual models.
They also made links between ratio and fractions to deepen their understanding.
Scale drawings will be introduced at the start of next week, where learners will apply their ratio knowledge in a new and practical context.
This week in Science, we began our new topic of Light. Learners, focused on the different parts of the eye and how light travells throught the eye and why we are able to see more in brighter eareas thatn dark areas.
This week, we began our exciting new topic on myths and legends. Learners chose a myth or legend of interest to research, produced a detailed fact file, and shared their learning confidently through group presentations.

Year 6 learners have made super progress since we began our weekly French sessions at the start of the school year.
Trying to pronounce new words correctly in a foreign language can be quite daunting so it's been wonderful to see how their confidence has grown and how even the shyer members of classes are keener to have a go.
After the break, I will look forward to sharing more songs and games to build on what we have already learnt and to introduce lots of exciting new vocabulary.
Bonne Année/Happy New to you all!
A group of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 musicians enjoyed an inspiring trip to the Bahrain National Theatre, where they attended an educational concert performed by the Bahrain National Orchestra. During the visit, the learners learnt about the different sections of the orchestra and how each family of instruments contributes to the overall sound. They were captivated by a programme that featured traditional Arabic music alongside well-known pieces from the stage and screen, giving them a rich and varied musical experience. The trip left the young musicians buzzing with excitement and a deeper appreciation for orchestral music.
