This week in English, learners explored key vocabulary from Ather and the Golden Rope to build a strong understanding of the story. They used drama to step into the scenes, acting out key moments to deepen their comprehension and engagement. Building on this, learners also wrote setting descriptions inspired by the story, using descriptive words and phrases to show what can be seen, heard, or felt in the scene. This helped them bring the story to life in their writing while developing their vocabulary and imagination.

This week our spellings focus on the words ending in 'ture'. Please support your child at home with these.

This week, Year 4 explored the 3, 6, and 9 times tables and made some surprising mathematical connections! Learners investigated how these tables link together, used strategies like Tic-Tac-Toe grids, skip counting, fact families, and pattern spotting to strengthen their fluency. It was fantastic to see learners explaining their reasoning and noticing clever patterns hiding inside multiplication!
During this week's science lessons, we explored the measurement of sound. We introduced the term 'decibels' and conducted an experiment around the school, using a decibel reader to assess sound levels in our classrooms, sports hall and common areas. The learners found this experience both engaging and informative.
Enquiry Learning
This week in Enquiry Learning, Year 4 explored the different parts of a Roman town, including the forum, amphitheatre, theatre, and Roman baths. The learners then researched different types of Roman entertainment, such as gladiator fights, chariot racing, and Roman theatre performances. They chose which form of entertainment they would most like to watch and prepared a short speech explaining their choice, which they confidently presented to the class.
To consolidate their learning, the learners revisited why the Roman Empire was so successful, linking their understanding of towns, entertainment, and organisation to the strength and impact of the empire.
