This week marked the final stage of our diary-writing unit in Year 2. Learners have proudly showcased their understanding of commas, question marks, apostrophes, and expanded noun phrases, bringing all these skills to life in their writing. They also applied their sentence-accuracy knowledge to create thoughtful consolidating statements. It has been a fantastic half term of English, and we are incredibly proud of their progress!

Maths
In maths this week Year 2 have been learning about 2D shapes, with a focus on finding and describing their lines of symmetry. We have also been continuing our work with 3D shapes, looking closely at their properties. The learners have been identifying and describing a range of 3D shapes by counting their faces, edges, and vertices.
Home Learning
To support their learning you can find and name 3D shapes at home (cube, cuboid, sphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid).
For each shape your child finds, ask them to describe its properties:
-How many faces does it have?
-How many edges?
-How many vertices?
Science
Science
We concluded our unit on Plants this week by setting up a home learning experiment. Learners planted a few seeds in two plant pots, which they will bring home this week. This is an optional home learning experiment for over the holiday.
Experiment:
One plant pot is to be kept in a warm place, and the other plant pot in a cold place (independent variable).
Both pots are to be given the same amount of water (controlled variable).
Learners have been given an observation sheet to record their findings in weeks 1, 2 and 3, which will inform their dependent variable.

In Enquiry Learning we have been learning about geographical features around Bahrain. We learned that Bahrain does not have all the geographical features of the UK - for example Bahrain does not have a river. We also learned about important landmarks in Bahrain and the UK.
Home Learning
To further support their learning, please look at Google Maps or Google Earth and see if your child can find Bahrain and countries near Bahrain. This will be so fascinating!

students will learn about traditional Bahraini clothing and the occasions for wearing them, as well as traditional Bahraini dishes and old traditional crafts in Bahrain, to enhance their knowledge of their country’s rich culture and heritage

Next week, we will focus on developing listening and reading skills through short, level-appropriate texts. Students will practice identifying spoken words and matching them with pictures, as well as reading simple words and sentences with correct pronunciation and attention to key vocabulary.

Home Learning Choice Boards
We are delighted to share our Home Learning Choice Board for this half term. This is an optional activity board for your child to complete. There are nine practical and engaging activities to choose from, please select up to three.
You can share your child’s completed activities with your class teacher, they will provide brief feedback to your child in class time.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to your class teacher or Year Leader.

Dear Parents,
The Ministry of Health and Education of Bahrain, requires that all learners joining Grade 1 which is Year 2 must have a compulsory medical health check examination completed and signed by a doctor in Bahrain in order for an early detection for any chronic disease.
Please attach a letter sent by the Health Care Centers.
I would be grateful if the examination form could be sent to me no later than 15th of February (new deadline) 2026 to nurse@nadeenschool.com, including your child’s name and class with a copy of the latest updated vaccination record. Please see more information here.

Christmas with a Pawfect Purpose.
In the spirit of Nadeen’s core values of love, care, and community, we are excited to introduce “Christmas with a Pawfect Purpose.” This special initiative gives our community an opportunity to spread kindness during the festive season by supporting our animal friends in need.
In collaboration with Bahrain Rescues we will be setting up a Christmas tree in the learner entrance decorated with wish-list tags. Each tag will include an item or small contribution that families may choose to provide. Children are welcome to pick a tag from the tree and bring in the corresponding item.
Our Wishlist (all items valued at 5 BD or less):
A bag of cat litter
A bag of cat or dog food
A cosy winter blanket for the dogs
Cleaning supplies
Apples or carrots for Bahrain Rescues’ resident donkey, Dolly

Winter Shoebox Appeal
Nadeen School is once again supporting the Migrant Workers Protection Society (MWPS) Winter Shoebox Appeal. This annual initiative takes place in November, as we approach the winter season, and aims to collect essential items for vulnerable members of our community.
We invite your child to participate by helping to pack a decorated shoebox or backpack with much-needed items. The children will box these up at home and bring them into school.
Please see the attached flyer for general information. We are asking for donations of toiletries (such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo) and dry foods, including lentils, rice, dried milk powder, and spices.
We will be collecting donations from next week in the Learner entrance and our contributions will be handed over to the MWPS later on.
Every donation makes a difference, and your support for this important cause is deeply appreciated.
Welcome to the Youtube Viral Fun Camp - December Edition!
Get ready for 10 days of exciting, hands-on fun where kids become creators, builders, testers, and trend-setters!
Each day, children will try out kid-friendly viral trends, jump into mini creative challenges, make trending crafts, explore sensory setups, and enjoy the kind of activities they LOVE watching online.
This camp is all about learning through play, experimenting, filming fun moments (optional), teamwork, confidence, and creativity.
Timings: 9 AM – 12 PM
Cost: 10 BD per day or Pay by the week.

Year 2 learners have made super progress since we began our weekly French sessions at the start of the school year.
Trying to pronounce new words correctly in a foreign language can be quite daunting so it's been wonderful to see how their confidence has grown and how even the shyer members of classes are keener to have a go.
After the break, I will look forward to sharing more songs and games to build on what we have already learnt and to introduce lots of exciting new vocabulary.

Year 2 learners explored how music can tell a story by reading a graphic score that depicts the journey of a train. They learned to follow symbols representing different sounds, such as chugging wheels, whistles and fast-moving sections. Working together, they used their voices to perform each part in sequence, building confidence as they matched the shapes on the score to the changing moods of the train’s journey.
