This week, learners took part in a role-play activity to explore and understand the emotions and feelings of Dr Watson. They then focused on using show, not tell techniques before completing a written description. Learners also completed the planning stage of a cliffhanger narrative, exploring what should be included in each section of this style of writing.
This week, learners focused on adding two mixed numbers and then completed their end-of-unit assessments, covering all the areas studied during the fractions unit. We then began our new unit on multiplication and division.
This week, learners conducted their own scientific investigation to answer the question: Which surface creates the greatest amount of friction with the sole of a shoe? Learners identified the independent, dependent, and controlled variables for the investigation, alongside an equipment list, method, and results table. They completed the investigation by using a Newton meter to pull a shoe across three different surfaces, analysing the results to determine how friction changed.
This week, learners visited the computer suite to research simple machines, focusing on gears, levers or pulleys. They created informative posters about their chosen machine and shared their learning with the group. Using the knowledge they gained, learners then began planning their own fairground model rides. They carefully considered the equipment and materials needed, as well as how their rides could be made to move.

We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
