This week in phonics, our focus phoneme has been /m/, with a lovely hands on link through metal resources. Our FS1 learners explored sand play using metal utensils, scooping, pouring and filling as they played. This helped them make clear connections with the /m/ sound while developing their fine motor skills and hand strength. There were lots of discussions as the children talked about what they were doing and shared ideas with their friends. They worked well together, taking turns with the equipment and showing pride in what they had created.
Our FS1 children have been developing their fine motor skills through activities such as mark making in the rice tray, using the LCD screens and engaging in hands on tasks that strengthen finger control and support early writing development.
This week, the children enjoyed exploring the marble run as part of our phonics provision, linking to the phoneme /m/. As they watched the marbles move, they experimented with speed, direction, and cause and effect, developing their Understanding of the World through hands-on investigation, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The children engaged with The Gruffalo story throughout this week as an independent group activity, using a range of props to support their storytelling. They listened attentively to one another, took turns in conversation, and confidently repeated familiar phrases from the story. Through sequencing events and describing characters and settings, the children developed key Communication and Language skills, expressing their ideas and narratives while building confidence in speaking and listening.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us make this a happy and memorable experience for all our learners!
We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
