Our FS1 learners explored capacity in Maths this week by filling big and small glass jars. Through hands-on play and curiosity, they compared sizes, made predictions, and developed early measuring skills. We used language such as full, half full, and empty to describe what we observed.
Our story focus for this week was Goldilocks and the Three Bears, children created bears using a range of loose parts. Through selecting, arranging and talking about their materials, children retold key elements of the story and described their bears, supporting early storytelling and vocabulary development. The activity also supported phonics by drawing attention to the initial phoneme /g/ in Goldilocks, modelling the sound and encouraging children to identify other words that start with /g/.
The learners enjoyed a phonics-linked fine motor activity this week as they practised cutting “grass” strips to match our phoneme of the week, /g/. Using the correct scissor grip and careful control, they strengthened their hand muscles and coordination while developing their cutting skills. As they worked, we repeated the word “/g/ - grass” to emphasise the initial sound and build confidence in hearing and saying the /g/ phoneme. This playful fine motor activity supported early literacy alongside focus, independence, and perseverance.
This week, we explored the natural world through Expressive Art and Design. Our learners drew and created using flowers, rocks, and other garden materials, supporting the EYFS area of Expressive Arts and Design and Understanding the World. The children developed their creativity, observation skills, fine motor control, and vocabulary as they explored textures, shapes, and colours found in nature.

We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
