This week, we continued reading our class book Old Bear! The learners have been busy exploring more about the characters and we created a role on the wall to think deeply about our character's feelings, and even wrote a list poem using adjectives to describe all the wonderful things we discovered in the attic!
In Phonics, we continued reviewing Phase 3 phonemes from last year to strengthen our knowledge and prepare us for our next steps.
These are the digraphs and trigraphs we covered this week;
ai, ee, igh, oa, ow, ear, air, er, sh, zz, ss, ck, ng
Ask your child: What is a digraph? What is a trigraph?
Spellings to try at home;
Decodable Words: misses, year, chain, cobweb, queen, goats, chair, better, bucket
Tricky Words what, when, he, she, we, be, me, have, love
This week in Maths, the children have been developing their skills in counting a specific number of objects from a larger collection. This activity encourages them to approach counting with greater care and organisation.
In Continuous Provision, the children accessed a range of games using 10 frames to consolidate their learning.
They have also been focusing on correct number formation, making sure their numerals are written clearly and correctly as they record their findings!
Ask your child: Can you count these objects? Can you write the numeral to match the number of objects? Can you form the number ... correctly?
This week in Science, our learners have had so much fun and excitement testing their parachutes. They have explored places within the Year 1 and 2 shared area to drop and test their parachutes. Their chosen most effective place became the mezzanine.
Testing their parachutes enabled them to discuss which materials supported the parachute to float the most safely for Old Bear. This learning experience created opportunities to discuss air friction and use vocabulary such as floating, fast, slow, fastest and slowest.
The children connected their Maths to this learning experience by counting how long their parachutes took to fall.
Ask your child:
What are the best materials to create a parachute? What did Old Bear use for his parachute in the story?

Dear Parents,
As part of our regular health and safety procedures and our ongoing commitment to maintaining accurate records, we will be sending a test SMS to all parents this Sunday at 10:00 AM.
This is a routine check to ensure our contact information is up to date and that we can reach all families promptly in the event of an emergency or important communication.
No action is required unless you do not receive the SMS. If that is the case, please contact us at Admissions@nadeenschool.com to update your details.
NOTE: SMSs will be sent to local numbers only; if you do not have one, please arrange to obtain a local number as we require 2 local contact numbers for each learner and a local emergency number different from the parents' numbers (This will be used in case of emergency only -not included in SMSs)
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
