This week in English, we began reading our new book FArTHER by Grahame Baker-Smith. We read up to page 10 and explored the story from the father’s perspective, writing responses that offered advice to his son. Learners then discovered a letter from the father’s workshop addressed to his son, which helped us to deepen our understanding of the characters. We also learned some new vocabulary from the text and practised using it in our own sentences. To finish the week, learners worked in small groups to step into the illustrations and bring the story to life through a short piece of drama, which they confidently performed for the class.
This week in maths, we began our new unit on Negative Numbers. Learners started by exploring where negative numbers appear in real life such as on elevators, thermometers and sea-level. We then practised counting through zero in ones using number lines for support. Building on this, learners developed their understanding further by counting through zero in different multiples.
This week in Science we began our new topic: Properties of Materials. Learners explored five mystery objects hidden in separate bags. Using only their sense of touch, they described what they believed each object might be. They then used a magnet to test for magnetism and a torch to test for transparency. Afterwards, learners sorted a range of materials into two groups - magnetic and non-magnetic - building their understanding of how different materials behave.
This week in enquiry learning , we began exploring our new Big Question: Who was more influential- the Ancient Greeks or the Vikings? To start, we completed a KWL grid to capture what learners already know, what they want to find out, and what they will learn throughout the unit. Next, learners split into two teams to create detailed timelines - one for the Vikings and one for the Ancient Greeks. Finally, we investigated a range of primary and secondary sources, analysing and sorting them into the correct categories to deepen our historical understanding.

Well done to all Year 5 learners as we focused on our new vocabulary of 'J'ai mal' to say that something was hurting us.
A popular activity was moving round the classroom to tell classmates which body part hurt and then moving onto the next person with a different ailment.

Dear Parents,

Please find here the External PAID ECA Providers at Nadeen School for Term 1.
We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
