Phonics

This week, the learners have been practising their phonics and applying these skills in both their reading and writing. It has been great to see them using their sounds more confidently to decode words when reading and to support their spelling in writing tasks.

The children have shown increased independence and are beginning to recognise patterns in words, which is helping to build their fluency. Their engagement and positive attitude towards learning have been particularly pleasing. Well done to everyone, keep up the fantastic effort!

Maths 

This week the learners have been exploring the fascinating world of patterns in the environment, discovering how repetition appears all around us. 

From the stripes on zebras and spots on leopards to the repeating shapes of leaves, shells, and fruits, learners are developing an eye for identifying patterns in nature. 

The children are beginning to understand how these patterns help animals survive and how they can be found in both natural and human-made surroundings.

 We have also enjoyed looking at the beautiful patterns found in Handa's Surprise too!

Drawing Club

This week in Drawing Club, we have been reading the story Handa’s Surprise. The children began to explore and understand more challenging vocabulary while engaging in imaginative discussions. They thought about questions such as: what would the tangerines hatch into if they were magic eggs? and what might Handa do if she turned around and caught the elephant trying to take her fruit?

These conversations supported the development of their creative and complex thinking skills. The children then applied their ideas by drawing matching pictures and writing short sentences to bring their imaginative thoughts to life.

Handa's Surprise

This week, the learners have been exploring the story of Handa's surprise, where they have been on a journey to Africa and discovered all about different animals and fruits that flourish in hot climates. They have taken part in various activities such as still-life painting, fruit and animal patterns, and memory games. What a wonderful week we have had in Africa!!!!
