This week in English, the learners wrote a short setting description based on an illustration from our class text, The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith. They explored different language and structural features, including how authors use similes and personification to make their writing more vivid and engaging.
Next week, the learners will begin planning their final setting narrative, where they will apply the skills and language techniques they have been learning.
Ask your child: Can you give me an example of a simile and personification?
Spellings: Homophones
scent
sent
vain

rode

This week, we started learning about fractions. The children explored denominators (how many equal parts a whole is divided into) and numerators (how many parts are represented or shaded). They also compared fractions using <, >, and =, and practiced ordering them.
Next week: We will continue our fractions learning, focusing on fractions on number lines and equivalent fractions.
Ask your child: What is a numerator and a denominator?
This week in Science, Year 3 learners explored the functions of different parts of plants. They identified the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers and discussed the important role each part plays in helping a plant grow and survive. Learners then created informative posters where they carefully labelled the parts of a plant and explained their functions. For example, roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil, the stem supports the plant and transports water, leaves make food for the plant, and flowers help with reproduction.
Ask your child:
Can you explain what job the roots, stem, leaves and flowers do in a plant?
This week, we explored the geography of China. The children learned about this fascinating country and labelled the continent, the country itself, and its neighboring countries.
Next week: We will begin to explore the history of China.
Ask your child: What continent is China in, and which countries are its neighbours?
We are grateful for the strong partnership we share with our parents. During periods of online learning, your support at home plays a role in helping your child continue to succeed.
Maintaining a simple daily routine and encouraging your child's efforts during lessons can make a big difference. Where possible, setting up a consistent learning space for your child to join each lesson can also help them stay engaged and ready to learn. Being prepared with essential resources; paper, pencil/pens and ensuring your child has a charged device sets them with readiness for every lesson. Scheduling the release of planning the night before which is a part of our flexible approach and gives you time to prepare any additional resources that might be needed the next day.
During online lessons, we aim to empower children to become confident and independent learners. While they are on their calls, we encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and engage actively in the lesson. Please remind your child that their teachers are there to support them just as they would in the classroom. They should feel confident raising their hand, unmuting their microphone, or using the chat to ask for help after the input session if they need clarification or support.
Brain breaks are equally important, a short physical activity between online lessons can help children refresh and refocus. Ensure that children step away from screens during their 30 minute morning break and their 30 minute lunch breaks to refresh and stretch their legs.
Most importantly, celebrate your child’s effort and progress. Your encouragement helps build their confidence and motivation to learn. Together, we will continue to support your children and ensure they have the tools to succeed during this period of online learning.
At Nadeen, we value strong partnerships with our families and your feedback plays an important role in our continuous improvement journey.
Our Parent Happiness & Feedback Survey has been designed to help us better understand your child’s experience across wellbeing, learning, communication and community.
