Phonics

This week, the learners have enthusiastically jumped back into practising their phonics and applying these skills in both their reading and writing. It has been great to see them using their sounds more confidently to decode words when reading and to support their spelling in writing tasks.

The children have shown increased independence and are beginning to recognise patterns in words, which is helping to build their fluency. Their engagement and positive attitude towards learning have been particularly pleasing. Well done to everyone, keep up the fantastic effort!

Maths

This week, the learners have been focusing on 3D shapes. They explored a range of properties, including identifying flat and curved faces, and recognising the 2D shapes that make up each 3D shape. The children have been learning the names of different 3D shapes, including spheres, cylinders, cones, cubes, cuboids, and pyramids, and have begun to identify these shapes in their everyday environment.

The learners particularly enjoyed the hands-on activities, where they created ramps to investigate which shapes roll or slide, and explored which shapes are most suitable for building. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the week—well done everyone!

Drawing Club

This week, our learners have been exploring the story Superworm by Julia Donaldson. We have introduced some interesting vocabulary, including hypnotic, undergrowth, flexible, and minuscule. Each day, our learners tackled a new “I wonder…” question, and they certainly didn’t disappoint! We saw lots of imagination, creativity, innovation, and some marvellous sentences too. Well done, FS2!
