This week, we continued looking at 'Rapunzel' and focusing on exploring the story deeper. We created a class poem using different adjectives and nouns from the story together and once again explored through drama by creating a role on the wall all about Rapunzel.
Ask your child:
Which decoding words and tricky words have you been practising in school this week? Can you have a go at practising them together at home?
Group 1: spider, paper, post, acorn, tiger, child
your, their, people, oh, Mr, Mrs, Ms
Group 2: coat, road, boat, toad, goat, soap, full, room, food, moon, boot, cool, zoom, too, was, book, foot, wood, look, hook, you, card, farm, park, car, dark, they
Group 3: kit, kid, dad, dog, sock, pick, pot, set, ten, pen, pet, cup, duck, neck
Reminder: Please make sure to return the reading folders every Wednesday so we can prepare the new book to be sent home on Wednesday (1ST and 1EP) or Thursday (1ER and 1VR).
This week in Maths, our learners have been exploring fact families and number bonds within 10 using the Part Whole Model. Through a range of practical, hands-on activities, the children discovered different ways to make the same total, for example finding all the pairs of numbers that add together to make 4 or 9. These experiences helped them see how numbers can be combined and separated in different ways to make a whole.
The children also learned that each set of numbers belongs to a fact family, a group of related addition and subtraction facts that use the same numbers. For example, from 3, 1 and 4, we can make 3 + 1 = 4, 1 + 3 = 4, 4 − 3 = 1, and 4 − 1 = 3. Using visual models, number sentences and games, the children developed confidence and fluency in understanding how addition and subtraction are linked.
Ask your child:
Can you show me different ways to make 4?
What number bonds make 9?
Can you tell me all the facts in the 3, 1 and 4 fact family?
This week, we continued learning about ways to help our planet. We set up an experiment to develop our understanding of 'Working Scientifically' and 'Materials'.
The experiment involved placing different materials in jars to observe over the course of time. We added apple, plastic, cardboard, and some green mung beans. We aim to discover which materials are good for the environment and which ones are harmful to planet earth. We made predictions about what will happen! We talked about decomposing and what it means.
Ask your child:
Which material will decompose the most quickly? Which will take the longest? What might happen to the mung beans?
Can you explain why we should turn off the taps?
Can you help with the recycling this weekend and bring it to the Nadeen recycling cages?
All of our recycling at Nadeen goes to Nidukki and they recycle the plastic here in Bahrain. They also bundle all of the cardboard and send it to be recycled.
We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of using the Nadeen recycling cages, supporting them to sort materials into plastic, card, paper and aluminium (cans) and bring a bag to school that we can recycle with them next week.
This week in Enquiry Learning, we continued exploring our new big question: “What Can We Do to Help Our Planet?”
This week, we have been adding to our Wonder Wall! Each class explored a photo and shared what they could see, what they thought might be happening, and what they wondered about. Together, we created our own questions for Nathan - our volunteer sea animal rescue worker and deep-sea diver who helps to protect and fix things in the ocean. We can’t wait to hear his responses and learn more about how he looks after our planet’s oceans!
Ask your child:
What animals could be harmed in the oceans due to plastic?

ماذا تعلمنا الأسبوع الماضي؟ | What we learned last week
الأسبوع الماضي، تعلّم الأطفال حرف الدال (د) وأصواته القصيرة والطويلة: دَ – دُ – دِ – دا، وتدرّبوا على كتابة الحرف وقراءته داخل كلمات بسيطة مثل (دب – يد – ورد – باب).
(Last week, children learned the letter Daal (د) and its short and long sounds: da – du – di – daa. They practiced writing the letter and reading it in simple words like (bear – hand – flower – door).)

هذا الأسبوع، سيتعلم الأطفال الأعداد من 1 إلى 8، وسيتدربون على العدّ باستخدام الأصابع أو أدوات اللعب.
(This week, children will learn numbers 1 to 8 and practice counting using fingers or play materials.)
Note:
This week we have a special project for non-Arabic speaking students to enhance their Arabic language skills in a fun and interactive way ( Link)
Well done to our Year 1 Wolves of the Week.
All the Year 1 learners did a great job of ordering the days of the week.
We played some games to see who could find each day the fastest and we looked carefully at initial sounds and word endings.
Singing our days of the week song helped us to remember the order of the days and also helped us with our pronunciation.
Next week, we are looking forward to playing some new games to help consolidate what we have learnt so far.
Nadeen School Annual Festive Fair
We are delighted to let you know that we are hosting this event again on Friday November 28th from 11am-4pm at Dilmunia, the home of our brand new, state-of-the-art campus.
On this day children, parents, staff and friends will come to our fair for a fun family day. We have games and prizes for the children, independent vendors offering various products for sale, food stalls, and a raffle. Last year we had over 2000 visitors to our Fair and it was an incredibly well-attended, well-enjoyed event; we are expecting even more visitors this year!
One of our largest fundraisers during the year is our Festive Fair Raffle. If you or your company could donate a raffle prize, such as a voucher, gift, gift certificate or hamper, it would be greatly appreciated by Nadeen School children, parents and staff. Should you be interested in sponsoring our event, please let us know by emailing v.trindade@nadeenschool.com and ks1-parentboard@nadeenschool.com

We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
