In FS1 Maths, we explored numbers through addition using number blocks. We counted how many friends were in class and then added more as others arrived such as “10 and 3 more” or “10 and 4 more”, building the total together. This also supported personal and social development as the children recognised their peers and strengthened their sense of belonging within our class community.
Our learners explored natural resources this week by using magnifying glasses to closely observe objects such as leaves, stones and pine cones, linking directly to Understanding the World by investigating and making sense of the natural environment. We discussed what they could see, noticing small details including colours, patterns, shapes and textures. Children were encouraged to compare objects and share their ideas, developing curiosity, vocabulary and an awareness of living things and their environments. This activity supported observation skills, helping children to notice change, make predictions and ask questions about the world around them.
This week, the learners strengthened their fine motor skills through a threading activity during classroom provision, carefully threading beads onto pipe-cleaners to create “octopus tentacles.” This supported hand strength, pincer grip, and hand–eye coordination as they selected, held, and moved the beads along. We linked it to phonics by focusing on our phoneme of the week, /o/, repeating “o for octopus” as we worked.
This week in phonics, our focus phoneme has been /o/, with a fun and sensory link to all things orange. Our FS1 learners explored the sound through hands on experiences, squeezing fresh oranges to make orange juice, moulding orange playdough and digging and pouring with orange coloured sand. These activities helped the children make clear connections to the /o/ sound while developing their fine motor skills and hand strength. There were lots of rich conversations as the children described what they could see, smell and taste, and excitedly shared their ideas with their friends.

We are pleased to inform you that a dedicated email address has now been created for reporting learner absences. This will help us ensure accurate attendance records and streamline communication. Thank you for your cooperation.
We will begin phasing the purchasing of food from the canteen into Primary from Wednesday, 14th October, starting with Year 6 learners. To support the smooth operation of this process, learner cards will be kept in school and given to students at lunchtime to make purchases.
Please note: learners can only purchase food if they have a card.
If you would like your child to buy lunch from the canteen, you will need to purchase a learner card. Instructions for how to purchase the card can be found spare APP.
Please ensure there is sufficient money loaded onto the card to allow your child to buy food. You can use the SPARE app to top up the card, view what your child has eaten, and purchase meals in advance.
We are aiming to introduce this system to Year 4 and Year 5 learners after the half-term break. We need this time to carefully organise the process so that we can maximise efficiency and ensure a smooth experience for all learners.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this introductory phase.
