Up and Coming Dates:
Saturday, 17th of January - Beach Clean Up
Thursday, 22nd of January - Nadeen's Birthday
Building on last week’s introduction to Shackleton’s Journey, learners developed their understanding of biography writing by analysing the structure, language features, and writer’s knowledge in the example text.
They discussed how information is organised and how vocabulary choices support the reader. Learners then applied this knowledge by selecting key facts and writing their own biography paragraphs, focusing on clarity, cohesion, and using appropriate grammar to enhance meaning.
This week in Maths, learners continued developing their understanding of ratio and applied this knowledge to scale and proportion. They explored scale drawings, learning how to represent objects accurately using given scales, and used scale factors to enlarge shapes while keeping proportions the same.
Learners also identified and created similar shapes, explaining how corresponding sides and angles remain consistent. Throughout the week, visual models and problem-solving tasks were used to strengthen reasoning and deepen understanding.
This week in Science, learners continued and extended their inquiry into light, building on their prior understanding of how light travels in straight lines and reflects at equal angles. Through more in-depth, hands-on experiments using mirrors and flashlights, learners refined their techniques to successfully direct light through a maze. They tested, evaluated, and adjusted mirror positions, developing a stronger understanding of reflection and how small changes can affect the path of light. This ongoing investigation strengthened learners’ scientific reasoning, problem-solving skills, and collaborative learning.
This week, learners researched a range of myths and legends, with some choosing stories from their own countries. They then designed their own Top Trumps cards, identifying and discussing key character traits such as fear factor, bravery, strength, and wisdom.

Dear Parents,
As part of our regular health and safety procedures and our ongoing commitment to maintaining accurate records, we will be sending a test SMS to all parents this Monday, 19th January.
This is a routine check to ensure our contact information is up to date and that we can reach all families promptly in the event of an emergency or important communication.
No action is required unless you do not receive the SMS. If that is the case, please contact us at Admissions@nadeenschool.com to update your details.
NOTE: SMSs will be sent to local numbers only; if you do not have one, please arrange to obtain a local number as we require 2 local contact numbers for each learner and a local emergency number different from the parents' numbers (This will be used in case of emergency only -not included in SMSs)

Next week, learners will learn classroom instructions and key words and phrases used in class in Arabic, such as: "open the book," "sit quietly," "listen carefully," "raise your hand before speaking," "read the text carefully," and "write your answer clearly."
