Special Events: Talent Show and Swim Gala
Our children have been incredibly busy and brilliant this week, showcasing their hard work, courage, and creativity across sports and the arts.
A Spectacular Talent Show
Today, we held our highly anticipated Talent Show, and it was a joy to watch! Many of our children took to the stage to perform the traditional rhythmic song, "Si Ma Ma Ka." They performed with such vibrancy and confidence, demonstrating fantastic musical growth. The children have been learning how musical notes and pauses create rhythm, using rhythm sticks to hit the right beat. The children will be performing for parents on June 17th at 9:00 AM. We would love to see you there!
We were also treated to a breathtaking solo performance by one of our students, who graced the stage as a ballerina. it was a truly beautiful and moving moment.
Splashing Success at the Swim Gala
The excitement continued with our Swim Gala, where the children had a wonderful opportunity to show off some of the things they have been learning in their swimming lessons. From building water confidence to perfecting their strokes every single swimmer did a phenomenal job. It was fantastic to see their determination and joy in the water.
Thank you to all the staff and families who supported our learners this week!
This week in Literacy and Maths, we have been learning the classic nursery rhyme "Hickory Dickory Dock." Nursery rhymes are a valuable part of learning as they support children's development across multiple subjects in a fun, engaging, and memorable way. Through listening, singing, and reciting the rhyme, the children have developed important listening skills as they learn to pay attention to words, sounds, rhythm, and rhyme patterns. Nursery rhymes also help to build vocabulary by introducing new words in meaningful, repetitive contexts. Our learning has been enriched through repetition, actions, picture prompts, role-play, and class discussions. These multisensory activities help to strengthen phonological awareness, improve speaking and pronunciation skills, and build children's confidence when communicating in English. The children have particularly enjoyed joining in with the actions and retelling the rhyme independently.
Alongside our language focus, this rhyme has provided a fantastic, hands-on opportunity to practice mathematical concepts. As the mouse runs up the clock, the children have been enthusiastically practicing their counting skills, tracking numbers, and learning about the passage of time as the clock strikes the hours. They have each had the chance to play a a character that 'runs up the clock.' Blending English and Maths together through joyful, interactive play has made the learning both deeply meaningful and incredibly fun.
The children are now enthusiastically preparing for their upcoming performance, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their learning, counting, and growing confidence. We are very proud of their efforts and look forward to sharing more details with you soon!
This week in English, we used our lessons to practise for our upcoming performance of The Enormous Turnip, and the children are becoming increasingly confident with their roles. We also focused on handwriting, ensuring that our lowercase letters start on the middle line and finish on the bottom line. In preparation for our new class text, Lost and Found, we began researching penguins and discovering interesting facts that will support our learning in the coming weeks.
This week in Maths, we explored the concept of halves by finding half of different quantities using practical resources such as sticks and stones. We also learned to recognise half of a shape by creating paper pizzas, which are now proudly displayed in our classroom.
Lower Primary
This week in Enquiry, our learners have been busy designing and creating their very own playgrounds! Using a variety of materials, they have carefully planned and constructed different pieces of playground equipment, bringing their creative ideas to life. Throughout the project, learners have demonstrated excellent imagination, problem-solving and teamwork skills as they explored how to make their structures strong, stable and fun to use. They have also developed their fine motor skills and independence while making decisions about their designs and adapting their creations when faced with challenges. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they work collaboratively and take pride in their unique playground designs.
Upper Primary and Secondary
This week in Enquiry, we have been busy putting the finishing touches on our Science Fair project. Learners have worked hard to complete their models by carefully painting and decorating them, showing great attention to detail and creativity. They have also been creating information for their display boards, helping to explain their project, the process they followed and what they discovered throughout their investigation.
Throughout the week, learners have demonstrated excellent communication, creativity and teamwork skills while discussing ideas and making decisions about how best to present their work. They have been encouraged to reflect on their learning, explain their findings and take pride in showcasing everything they have achieved. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they prepare to share their projects with others, and we are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm they have shown throughout the Science Fair process.
