From the Principal 

Dear Leawood Families,

August has been a month of discovery, new learning, and relationships for our students and staff here at Leawood Elementary School. The staff has done a tremendous job not only sharing expectations of the class but also building these expectations together and creating a sense of community. In one of our first staff meetings, I highlighted many of the accomplishments we celebrated last year, while also reminding our team that with every success comes the challenge and the opportunity to continue growing. There is always room for improvement, and we are committed to striving for it.

I would like to take a moment to thank our PTSA President, Amber Martin, for her incredible leadership and dedication to our school community. Under her guidance, our PTSA has already made a big impact this year with events like the Columbine Block Party, where our 5th graders had so much fun styling hair for students. In addition to these special events, our PTSA continues to provide meaningful opportunities to connect, including our Tears and Cheers gathering and monthly PTSA meetings. Our first of the year had a wonderful turnout! We are so grateful for Amber and the entire PTSA team for the time, energy, and heart they pour into making Leawood such a welcoming environment for our students, staff, and families. As I shared at the Back to School Night, this is a special place!

Today, Friday, August 29th, we celebrated our first Spirit Day of the year. Overwhelmingly, the students came through, showing their support for the school by wearing their Leawood gear or by wearing blue. Next Thursday, September 4th, we will celebrate hat day and the start of the NFL season by having a football day! Please have your children wear anything football-related, as long as it isn’t the Kansas City Chiefs. ;)

We will continue to take pride in our Pride!
