Customizing Student Chromebooks

Overview

The District's Google Dashboard allows us to customize certain resources for students using Chromebooks. This includes custom app sets and home pages. These settings are the same for all students in a school.

If you are a Chromebook using teacher, please contact your Ed Tech Leader about providing input to a member of your Chromebook team (e.g., teachers using Chromebooks) to decide on the apps that are appropriate for your students.

Limitations

Some students have installed inappropriate Chrome Extensions on to student devices. As a result, inappropriate pop-up advertisements have been displayed on district computers and students using these extensions are able to bypass the district's web filtering.

To address the issue, Chrome Extensions have been limited to a set list of “allowed extensions." Any extension that is not on the “allowed extension” list has been automatically removed from the student's account as of 5/26/2017.

If you are trying to use a Chrome App/Extension in your classroom and receive a “Blocked” notice liked the one shown to the right, submit a Web Help Desk Ticket and we will get the application added to the system as quickly as we can.

Process for Requesting Additional Apps

Staff can submit a Web Help Desk request to requested apps/customizations that your school is interested in having set up. Below is a listing of the basic app sets; you can request all or a subset of them. In addition, you can determine which apps are "pinned" to the Chrome launcher.
