Zoom Tips
Overview
Zoom is video teleconferencing software developed by Zoom.
Individual Users
Make sure you are using the latest version of Zoom. Zoom is updated often (weekly, if not more) with fixes and performance improvements.
Plug into ethernet if possible. Wired is almost always more reliable than Wi-Fi, due to physics.
You will probably have performance issues if you are Zooming from slower forms of home broadband, such as CenturyLink DSL and cellular hotspots. Zoom is supposed to adjust quality automatically, but it doesn't always work properly. You can try to manually reduce video quality or go "audio only" in your Zoom preferences to increase performance. Nerd Note: home DSL normally has very low upload speeds, which affects both sending video and "ACKing" regular traffic which slows download speeds, when congested.
If a participant has garbled or "robotic" audio, have that participant adjust their mic input level on their device.
In a recent ChromeOS version, this has caused issues. See the following article for how to fix it: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/10045949?hl=en
