YouTube Video Restrictions

Overview

In order to comply with federal laws, such as the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and maintain E-RATE eligibility, the district is required to filter Internet content that may be harmful to children. As part of this policy, the district  uses YouTube Restricted Mode. The district does not have the power to allow videos beyond the features available below.

Some YouTube videos are restricted.

If you, or a student, is NOT logged into Google Chrome, they may see an image that looks like this:

How do I Know if a Video is Restricted?

When you are logged into Google/YouTube with your district account and you visit YouTube you will see that all videos will have a blue bar below them indicating the status.

Staff will always be able to see restricted videos. Students will not.

Approving Restricted Videos for Student Viewing

All staff can approve restricted videos so that students may view the video.

Once approved, the blue bar will indicate that it has been approved.

Student Access to Restricted Videos

Once a staff member approves a video, students logged into Chromebooks or logged into Chrome on Macs may view the video.

Who can Restrict Videos?

Any staff member can remove approval by clicking the Remove button.
