Managing Spam with Outlook Web App (OWA) Junk E-mail Filters

Outlook Webmail (OWA) has a basic version of a SPAM filter.  When messages arrive in to the email system they are given a potential SPAM rating.  If the message meets the minimum requirement of a SPAM message it is moved to the Junk E-Mail folder.  

To view or edit your Junk E-mail, login to Webmail at https://webmail.springfield.k12.or.us

Viewing your Junk E-mail

Click the Junk -Email folder in the column on the left.

Marking messages as Junk E-mail

To mark an email message as junk, right-click on a message and select "Mark as junk". In the future, messages from this sender should go directly to your Junk E-mail folder.

If you made a mistake marking a message as junk, you can unmark it by visiting your Junk E-mail folder, right-clicking on the message, and selecting "Unmark as junk"

Viewing your Junk E-mail Settings

1)      In the top right hand corner under your name click the Settings icon, then choose Options from the drop-down menu.  Click block or allow.

2)      Select Automatically filter junk email.

3)   View, add or delete addresses from the safe senders and/or blocked senders list.  Click save.

4)      You’ll need to restart your Webmail session before the change will take effect.  Click “Sign Out” of Webmail and log back in. 

It is important to check your “Junk E-Mail” folder on a daily basis to make sure that it working correctly.  

1.  If you see a message in your Junk E-mail folder that has been incorrectly marked as SPAM, right-click on the message and choose Mark as not junk.
