Using the SPS Portal QR Codes with iPads

Step 1: Print QR CodesClick here for directions; be sure to print at the highest quality you can (e.g., 1200 dpi).

Step 2: Students Log In with QR Codes as shown in the movie below.

If you are a K-1 teacher, feel free to use the QR codes for accessing HMH ThinkCentral. They work great! But, using them for i-Ready, as you can see from the movie, takes a lot of doing to log out.

Strategies for Successful Use of QR Codes on iPads

1. Students need to understand the log out process. Does Safari have more than one or two tabs open? If so, this can cause problems. It's important for students to follow the logout process. Please watch the video above to learn the specific steps the students should take, especially how to log out, so that the iPad is ready for the next user.

2. Students should have their QR Code in hand before clicking the Scan QR Code button. Clicking before they are ready can result in time outs.

3. Students need to hold the QR code steady. Kids are quick, but they need to slow down on this one. Please remind them that the iPad DOES NOT need to "see" their names on their QR Code card. :-)

4. Students need to hold the QR code card without touching the actual QR code portion of the card.

5. QR Codes need to remain flat and not smudged. Bent cards can cause problems; QR codes that are smudged will not work.

Reprint smudged or bent cards.

Still Having Problems?

If you have watched the video above and your students are still having issues, you may need to clear out old website data on the iPad by:

Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, then tap Remove All Website Data.
