QwertyTown Keyboarding (3-5)
Based on input from the Elementary Ed Tech Leaders at the November 2021 meeting, QwertyTown is being made available to all 3-5 students.
Secondary keyboarding information is here.
Overview
QwertyTown uses social rewards as students improve their keyboarding skills.
All 3-5 students can use QwertyTown; it is accessible through the SPS Portal.
Teachers: If you choose to use QwertyTown, please review the information in the slides below prior to having your students use it.
Professional Development
Using QwertyTown is fairly straightforward.
For those of you opting to use this tool with your students, you will need to get up to speed and make some decisions about how this will work with your students.
To do this:
gather your grade level team
print a copy of the Teachers' Guide (skip pages 10-11), and
review the slides below.
If you have questions after doing these things, please contact karen.babcock@springfield.k12.or.us (541.726.3267)
Recommended Teacher Intervention
Should you decide to use this program with your students, it is imperative that you model and continually reinforce proper finger placement.
If you observe your students using the "hunt and peck" or two fingered typing while using QwertyTown, be sure to provide feedback so that the student can learn correct keyboarding skills.
