Quarantined Emails

Our email system analyzes incoming emails to determine whether they are spam or harmful. Depending on how our systems score the email, it may be delivered, rejected, or quarantined.

If an email has been determined to likely be spam, it may be quarantined. Quarantine means it is stored on the email servers and is not delivered to the recipient. Quarantined emails are automatically deleted after awhile.

You may receive emails stating that you have messages in the quarantine. They look like the screenshot below.

If the message is legitimate, you can click the Release button and it should deliver to your inbox within a few minutes.

Manually Checking Your Email Quarantine

If you are expecting an email that has not arrived, check the Quarantined Email site for real-time messages being quarantined.  You can check this site anytime.  You do not need to wait for the Spam Notification email that is sent to you periodically.

Note:  By clicking the "Release message" option, the program does not necessarily add the sender to an "allow list."  It will resubmit the email back to the Spam provider to run through the analytical as legitimate email.  If a legitimate email keeps getting flagged as spam, most likely it is because the sender is doing something in the email that is also a common spammer technique.  This is one case where the email will continue to be marked as spam.  You may submit a help desk ticket to add a contact email to our allow list.

To check your Spam Quarantine box

1.  Open https://protection.office.com/#/quarantine

2.  Pick an email account or sign in with your email address.

3.  Enter your email password.

4.  Stay signed in?  Choose No or Yes.

5.  Navigate to "Threat management" and click on down arrow symbol to reveal "Review" in the drop-down menu.  Click on "Review" then click on the Quarantine window.

6.  Review quarantined messages.

7.  Select the message(s) you would like to release to your inbox by checking the box next to the message.

8.  Click on Release messages and choose whether to report message(s) to Microsoft for analysis.  Message will appear in your email inbox.

Messages expire 2 weeks from the day it is quarantined.  After that time, messages will no longer be available or show in your Quarantine list.
