New Features in 2018

A new version of Synergy, called 2018, was installed on July 27th, 2017. It mostly works the same as the old version of Synergy, but there are some differences you'll notice. See below for some highlights:

Grids, such as Phone Numbers or Parents and Guardians in the Student screen, can now be searched in Find Mode. Say you want to find all students who have Student Cell Phones entered in Synergy. First, enter Find Mode by clicking the  button. Then, scroll to the bottom of the Demographics tab and, in the Phone Numbers grid, select Student Cel from the drop-down in the Type column. In the Phone column just to the right, type an asterisk (*). Finally, click the  button at the top of the screen. You now have a list of your student's cell phone numbers that, like any Find Result, you can export to a PDF or an Excel file.

You will probably notice this one as soon as you start entering data. A  button will appear in the upper right corner of any field that you change. If you click the  button, it will change the field back to what it was before you changed it. As before, you will no longer be able to undo changes after clicking the

 button.

Most fields that have a  symbol next to them will now suggest values when you begin to type into them. For example, if you are entering a note for teachers on the Notes tab of the Student screen, you can begin typing the teacher's last name and select the suggested value instead of going to a Find window. Click anywhere in the Teacher field or on the

symbol and notice that the Autocomplete menu appears, suggesting the first few items alphabetically. Type two or three letters and the value you are looking for should appear. Use the arrow keys or click on the value you want, and when it's highlighted in orange, either type Enter or click on it. If you accidentally select the wrong value, either click the

symbol again or the

symbol to start over.

In the Student, Parent, or Section screen, you can hover over the fields at the top of the screen (just under the tabs) to see a "snapshot" of essential data related to the record.

Synergy now has some built-in visualizations of student performance. On the Period Attendance screen, the Summary tab contains charts of Attendance Type and Attendance Reason by Bell Period. On the Student Course History screen, the Summary tab displays a chart of the student's progress toward graduation by Subject Area. You can choose what the charts display by clicking the

button in the upper left corner of the chart.

These are just some of the new features you'll find in the 2018 version of Synergy. If you see anything else that you have a question about, please fill out a Web HelpDesk ticket. Have fun exploring!
