Overview

The district filters internet access for many reasons: 

• to Protect Students 

• SpringNET adherence

• Stop students from outside attacks

• Meet FERPA and COPPA requirements.  

• Federal funding eligibility.  

When the district went to 1:1, we had to change our filtering to accommodate devices at home.

We chose to move to a product called Lightspeed. This product also monitors Google services for messages about violence and self harm activity and sends alerts to school administrators, counselors and/or psychologists for follow up.  About ⅓ of all of the alerts we have received have required follow up.
