Let's Get Started
1. Review the SPS Video Guidelines for Teachers. Make sure that you understand what is and is not allowed in SPS.
2. Verify that you are logged into your district Google Chrome account.
If you see a folder in your toolbar called "SPS Bookmarks" you are logged in.
If you do not, click here and sign in with your district email address/password.
3. Locate the Screencastify icon in your extensions toolbar.
4. Complete the 10-minute The Flash online course
Please note that should already have the Screencastify extension (provided you are signed into Chrome with your district account). Therefore, you will not have to add the extension as shown in the class.
To enroll in The Flash, you will need to create a Screencastify Train account (this is different than your Screencastify account) to access the course.
5. Watch the demo below to learn how to add automatic captions.
Before Creating a Feature Film...
Short videos are better than long videos. Why? Best practice is to chunk content into smaller pieces. Check out the chunk content into smaller pieces section on the Pedagogy and Practices page for more info.
TIP: Use the find function command-f (Mac) / control-f (Win) to location the phrase "chunk content into smaller pieces section."
Try It
The video you just watched gave a lot of information in a very short amount of time.
Use the Screencastify button in Chrome to create your own recording.
Reflect: What was easy? What do you have more questions about?
