Network Troubleshooting
Questions to answer in a ticket. Answering these basics reduces troubleshooting times drastically:
What specific area(s) of the school is this occurring?
If wireless, do you see the SPS_Secure SSID in your wireless network chooser?
If not, is your wireless turned on? Do you see other wireless networks?
If wireless, can you connect to SPS_Secure in your wireless network chooser?
If not, what error do you see? Are you sure you entered the account credentials correctly?
Do you get an IP address starting with "157.246"?
If not, what address do you get?
If the IP address starts with "169.254", talk to Jacob.
If the IP address starts with "10." or "192.168", then there is a misconfigured device on the network. This is usually a rogue airport, consumer wireless router, or a Mac with Internet Sharing turned on somewhere. Talk to Jacob.
What color is the LED of the Wireless Access Point in the affected area?
For more information on what the LEDs mean, see our article on WAPs.
At recently completed bond sites, make sure that the device is not connecting to an old SSID, such as SPS-Cart.
