There's not a lot to report on for today! The students spent the first half of the day finishing their Study of the City research presentations and the second half presenting. There are some students who will still need to present next week.
Our December 12th field trip is starting to take shape. We will be grabbing lunch at CupBop and attending a meeting at City Hall with the city Climate Action Manager in the afternoon. The students are still hoping to have one more scheduled visit with a community member, but they will fill in the extra space with open-ended activities such as a visit to Freak Alley, visiting a contemporary art gallery, seeing some historic buildings, and maybe even sampling some Basque snacks... Next week, they will need to solidify the trip schedule, plan the route, decide who is leading each section of the trip, learn group travel etiquette, and reflect on a GATE career well done!
If you'd like to check out any photos from my Thanksgiving trip to Panama, you can find them on the site home page.
I'm on the hunt for a few experts to join our class in person or via video chat. If you or someone you know would be interested, please let me know!
Professional(s) who use microscopy or microbiology in their work to teach the 5th graders about their job [Needed sometime before winter break]
A professional who know a lot about brains! (Bonus if you have any way to show the 4th graders a human brain...) [Needed sometime before winter break]
Someone who uses drones for their work (or potentially recreation) to talk about their job with the 5th graders (Bonus if you could fly for us!) [Needed during 3rd quarter]
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
