The 6th graders dove fully into their study of the city research and trip planning today. Almost every student has now sent at least one professional email to a local expert on their topic! They have contacted Boise Parks and Rec, local artists, business managers, Treefort Music curators, and two students even video chatted with Mr. Gabrielli, a climate and water educator for Boise Public Works!
Some progress was also made on planning our December 12th field trip, with a focus on indoor locations due to unpredictable weather. Some potential trip activities include a chat at City Hall with someone from the climate action division, a visit to Idaho's tallest building 8th & Main, exploring a contemporary art gallery, and maybe even a backstage look at a local concert venue. We'll hopefully hear back from more local experts and get the details hammered out at our next GATE class. I am happy to cover student lunches with Foundation funds up to ~$10. Any extra snacks will be optional and need to be covered by the individual.
We'd still love to have another chaperone join us for the student-led trip on Monday December 12th. Chaperones may either meet us at Lowell to catch the bus downtown at 9:30am, or they may meet us on the steps of the Capitol at 9:45am. (I accidentally said 10am last week.) We will follow the students' itinerary around downtown until we are picked up at the Capitol again at 1:15pm in time to get back to Lowell. Email Ms Gabrielli if you would like to join. Preference will go to guardians who have not chaperoned a GATE trip yet and email me first. If you've already been on a trip but are interested, feel free to still email, and I'll let you know if I don't hear from anyone else by this Wednesday.
I'm on the hunt for a few experts to join our class in person or via video chat. If you or someone you know would be interested, please let me know!

As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
