Today, we started the day by reviewing radius and diameter math. Then, students that wanted an extra challenge chose to join a circumference group, while the other students worked on more circle art using compasses. The circumference challenge group go an introduction to pi and used mostly calculators to find the circumference of circles, though some students caught on to multiplying decimals and were able to calculate circumference by hand! I am happy to continue to work with students on these skills during Choice Time for interested students.
All students should have then completed two short assignments in their Book Creator portfolios. The first was to draw a circle with a compass and label the center, radius, diameter, and circumference. The second was to show off some of their circle art or circumference math and describe a challenge they ran into while doing that work. Students who finished early, followed some drawing tutorials from library books.
