Today the 6th graders finished their drone projects! Finished videos should be added to the 6th grade digital portfolios along with their rubric, self-assessment, and reflection. If a team has not done this, they will need to either finish that work outside of class or during our next Free Choice. Videos will be premiered our first day back after Spring Break.
Teams that finished early today got the chance to free-fly some drones using the Tello app. They had a lot of fun trying some advanced techniques such as flipping the drone in 8D, practicing hand landings, and the "throw and go" launch pattern.
In the last quarter of the year, we'll be working on a smattering of things. I'm organizing to have some former GATE students hold a panel for our rising 7th graders to help them feel prepared and excited for their upcoming junior high journey. The 6th graders will also be planning a walking field trip for the end of the year to help them practice leadership, independence, professionalism as they interact with members of the community throughout the planning process and trip. We'll be looking for a couple chaperones to join us, so I'll share out more information as that project comes together.
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the Lowell GATE Classroom Fund this year! Your donations have purchased 2 drone kits, tons of art and engineering supplies, and 5 huge Lego sets! I have my eye on some Rubik's cubes, a full-sized microscope, and math/strategy challenges. Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account.
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
