This week, the 4th graders worked on their crankie box construction. We first watched the instruction video, and then the students divided into groups to put the direction in their own words. This gave them visual and written instructions to use as resources if they felt stuck in their work. In the afternoon, I had to attend a training, so they spent that time continuing to work on their scroll work. There aren't many photos from this week because I was busy as the box cutter specialist and wooden skewer-cutting supervisor for the entirety of the morning work period. The fourth graders are really improving at using their tools and strategies to solve their own problem before seeking the input of the teacher. It has improved student agency and teacher and student efficacy! (Plus it is just a lot of fun!)
We're all set on building materials and snacks for the time being! Thank you so much for all of the generous donations!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually.
