Today the 5th graders' day was full of research. The students spent the morning researching the microscopic world with the aim to answer the question, "How does the microscopic world affect us?" Research topics ranged from microscopic animals to viruses to atomic structure to microscopy in computer science. The research and presentations took longer than planned, so we only had time to get started putting the rest of the class set of Foldscopes together. That just means that next week will be super hands-on, which is never a bad thing! Through this unit, the students will get to view and create microscope slides that help them explore their environment and the magic of the microscopic world.
The students began building their Foldscopes. There are A LOT of steps to get these put together properly!
Students took turns presenting their research.
Next week the 5th graders will be using their Foldscopes to get an up-close view of computer pixels!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the Lowell GATE Classroom Fund this year! Your donations have purchased 2 drone kits, tons of art and engineering supplies, and 5 huge Lego sets! I have my eye on some Rubik's cubes, a full-sized microscope, and math/strategy challenges. Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account.
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
