Three students photobomb Grumpy Fish.
After mastering drone programming and flying last week, the 5th graders tried their hand at drone costume design this week in GATE. They pulled inspiration from the Cirque du Soleil production Sparked and Lea Pereyre, the world's first drone costume designer. Students learned that drone costumes must be light, balanced, and aerodynamic, which isn't easy when dealing with a quadcopter! Some teams were also inspired to play with lights and movement in their designs. After a lot of trial and error (and a couple broken propellers and shredded tissue paper,) all of the groups were able to create designs that could take flight and look good doing it!
Next week, students will break into teams and begin imagining a performance that can answer our essential question of "How can technology and art work together to enrich our lives?"
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the GATE classroom! There have been several anonymous donors who don't get to receive a fun thank you card in the mail, so please know how much we appreciate your generosity. We have already been able to get power tools, craft supplies, and TONS of Lego bricks! Two new drones will also be added to our fleet in time for the 5th/6th grade drone programming project!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
