It is awesome having a classroom full of 4th graders again! I can already tell that this group is going to be a highlight of my week. A lot of our work so far has been establishing norms and getting to know each other. (We have 26 students this year!) However, we were able to do our introductory ethics activity. The students pretended that it was their job to explain the meaning of the word "fair" to a friendly alien named Zolorb. Many students in the class chose to read/perform their descriptions for the class. I took notes on the students' main points (see image below), and we will revisit this activity at the end of the unit to see how their understanding of the term evolves. I can tell we have a lot of deep thinkers in this group, so I can't wait to throw some ethical dilemmas their way next week as we continue the study!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education. A big purchase, I have my eye on is a set of classroom cameras for the 3rd grade photography unit and to help other students with self-expression and documenting the progress of their project work.
