This week, we only had six 4th graders in GATE since over half of our class attended Wagons Ho. I decided to take the opportunity to test out some new fractal activities that I have never lead. This was the perfect crew to try them out!
We first read a book about fractals to get the concept down. Then they completed a 4-part Pascal's Triangle and Sierpinski Triangle math challenge. I heard, "This is hard!" a lot during this challenge, but they did great! The students also used toothpicks and play dough to build third-order fractal tetrahedrons, which was really cool to see!
It was really fun to have this small group, but I can't wait to have the whole crew back together again next week.
... due to the Facilitators providing GATE screenings at high needs Title One schools across the district. This is important work to help identify gifted children from underserved populations that might otherwise go unnoticed and not have their exceptional needs met. Thank you for understanding!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea), our own set of 6 classroom Tello drones ($150 ea) that we don't have to share, Rubiks Cubes ($12), and a hand-held vacuum cleaner! The 6th graders will also be going on THREE field trips this semester, and we will need one of the bus trips (~$100) covered by Foundation donations. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
