It has been awesome having the 5th graders back in the GATE classroom! This year's theme is Relationships, so we are starting the year with a study of personality. We will be examining how to understand your own personality and how to be empathetic to the needs of others' personalities. The 5th graders started their study by creating Personality graffiti walls where they tried to encapsulate the meaning of personality with words and pictures. They then distilled their understanding into a single sentence that we will be using as our definition for the unit. The students also created a Heart Map that represents their personalities, and they reflected on potential personality conflicts that could arise while engaging in competition. Their Heart Maps can be viewed on their Book Creator Portfolios.

Next week, we will jump full force into our personality study by taking a Myers-Briggs test, reading articles, and starting on abstract art pieces that represent the students' results.
