Today, the 2nd and 3rd graders continued their work with photography composition. We started the day by reviewing the photography composition conventions that were introduced last week: Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Fill the Frame, Patterns and Symmetry, Viewpoint, Framing and the bonus category of Narrow Depth of Field/Selective Focus. I then surprised the students by giving them a composition quiz where I showed photos that they took last week, and they determined what composition trick was used by their classmate. They loved to see some of their work displayed on the big screen!
Then, the students worked with their tablet partners from last week to create their own composition quiz or guide using photos that they took last week. Students learned how to sign in to their school account without using a quick card, and some students learned how to use Google Slides for the first time. Students who finished early challenge their classmates to complete their composition quizzes. Some students who brought their own point-and-shoot cameras or students who borrowed a class iPad Mini even spent their recess refining their photography composition skills!

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the GATE classroom! There have been several anonymous donors who don't get to receive a fun thank you card in the mail, so please know how much we appreciate your generosity. We have already been able to get power tools, craft supplies, and TONS of Lego bricks! Two new drones will also be added to our fleet in time for the 5th/6th grade drone programming project!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
