This week, we had a guest teacher: BSU's very own geoscientist, Dr. Jen Pierce! In the morning, she taught the class about how greenhouse gasses such as methane and carbon dioxide trap heat with a tag-like game. Here's an awesome video featuring Dr. Pierce to learn about and review the concepts!
In the afternoon, the students answered several reflection questions in their digital portfolios. Dr. Pierce was also able to come back in the afternoon to hear students present their greenhouse gas reducing and sequestering inventions. She was so impressed by the creativity and critical thinking that the students demonstrated. She told us that in the next decade, there is estimated to be around 50,000 jobs in the Treasure Valley related to renewable energy. I think we started training the first sent of recruits today! Thanks for visiting, Dr. Pierce!
Our last GATE day for 4th grade is Wednesday May 18th. Students are welcome to bring a special snack for themselves or to share with our class of 21 on that day. We have one student with a tree-nut allergy.
A rousing game of Greenhouse Gas Tag!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to the Lowell GATE Classroom Fund this year! Your donations have purchased 2 drone kits, tons of art and engineering supplies, 5 field microscopes, and 5 huge Lego sets! I have my eye on some more Rubik's cubes (thank you to the family that donated some old ones!!), math/strategy challenges, and some storage bins that better fit the cabinets.

(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
