Today, the 1st graders started their first unit all about Innovation! We started with a circle map to help us figure out how to explain what an idea even is. We then read the book What do you do with an Idea? This led us to wonder what our ideas would look like if they were animated, so we drew our vision of an idea on the front of our Innovation Journals.
As a final project of the day, we decided to take our ideas on a journey that started with identifying a problem that needed solving. Then, we sparked an idea, drew it in our journals, and crafted a prototype using our Maker Boxes! This work helped us to practice Design Thinking, following through with a plan, and PERSISTENCE when we may find a task to be difficult. Good thing all of our students are good at doing hard things!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
