It has been so fun getting the year started with the 2nd graders! Most of our class is new to GATE, so we have been working a lot on group norms, getting to know each other, and starting the year off right. A favorite activity of the first two GATE classes has been establishing Book Creator Portfolios. This is where the students will showcase and reflect upon their work in the GATE classroom. Since Pull-Out GATE doesn't have grades, this is an awesome way for you to conference with your student about their work. Whenever students post in their portfolios, I will link the library here. Today, new students created their portfolios and designed a cover, and returning students started chapter title pages and worked on sprucing up their portfolios for a new year.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education. A big purchase, I have my eye on is a set of classroom cameras for the 3rd grade photography unit and to help other students with self-expression and documenting the progress of their project work.
