Today the 3rd graders had the opportunity to finish their Mars/Earth comparison slideshows, and a few students presented their work to the class for feedback. All students should have their presentations posted to their Book Creator portfolios. The students are doing a great job practicing using success criteria to assess their own work rather than just relying on the teacher telling them if they were successful in their work. This is a great way to build intrinsic motivation within a population that can often get hung up on the extrinsic value of a letter grade.
All students will present to a small group of their peers next week and practice giving and receiving feedback. Next week, we will also be starting a Mars habitation design project, where the students will analyze the limitations of living on Mars, design a domicile, and present their designs on a real estate advertisement!
Our schedule was a bit truncated today because we had the opportunity to join the Lowell student body to see the Idaho Theater for Youth perform a play.
The last class will be May 18th.
Adults who would be willing to video chat or stop by the 1st grade class and share about their career, especially if it is a STEM career! If you are willing to hold a Q and A with the students, I can design classwork to accompany your job. Or, if you would like to teach the students something, that's great too! Last year, we had fun learning about architecture, wildlife biology, computer coding, and several other careers. I can't wait to see what we can put together for the students this year!
