Today the 5th graders were finally able to debut their drone films. After each film, the students practiced giving polite, specific, and success-criteria-oriented feedback to their peers through Book Creator. After premiering the films, the students self-assessed their work against the success criteria and answered reflection questions about their experience on their portfolios. Be sure to check out their videos, reflections, and self-assessments to bridge the gap between class and home! We don't have report cards in GATE, so this is how we keep the conversation open and deepen learning.
Next week, we will be starting a genius-hour-esque final mini unit where students will be able to pursue a passion project to finish the year, all while connecting it to the theme of our year, Relationships.
Will the torturous spaghetti puzzle be finished by the end of the year??
Only time will tell!
The last class will be May 16th.
Adults who would be willing to video chat or stop by the 1st grade class and share about their career, especially if it is a STEM career! If you are willing to hold a Q and A with the students, I can design classwork to accompany your job. Or, if you would like to teach the students something, that's great too! Last year, we had fun learning about architecture, wildlife biology, computer coding, and several other careers. I can't wait to see what we can put together for the students this year!
