Ms Gabrielli flying a classroom drone!
I am so excited to meet you all in a few short days! I had a wonderful summer catching up with family and friends, and I have been busy setting up our fun GATE classroom at Lowell Elementary Room 203!
This summer I also learned to fly and program drones, which will be making an appearance in our classroom this year! Some of you will just be seeing them fly, and others will get the opportunity to program your own drone choreography!
Monday - 6th Graders from 9:15am-1:55pm
Tuesday - 5th Graders from 9:15am-1:55pm
Wednesday - 4th Graders from 9:15am-1:55pm
Friday - 1st Graders from 9:15am-1:55pm
In order to minimize sharing materials and provide the safest environment possible, we will be asking each student to provide the following materials for their own personal use in the GATE classroom. Please bring these on your first day of GATE. If providing these materials would be difficult for you, please reach out, and I can discreetly provide your child with the materials.
Scissors
Package of 12 pencils
Pink Eraser
Box of Markers or Crayons
1 Black Pen
Students can provide their own pencil pouch to put supplies in or they will be provided with a zip bag with their name on it.
2nd and 3rd Graders will spend the first quarter of the school year considering the theme "exploration." We will be learning about beauty, curiosity, and wonder. One of our first units will ask students to view and determine if spiders are artists and how webs might compare to abstract art.
Throughout your child's GATE experience we will be focusing on developing Habits of Mind. Habits of Mind are dispositions that are skillfully and mindfully employed by characteristically intelligent, successful people when confronted with problems, the solutions to which are not immediately apparent. When we draw upon these mental resources, the results are more powerful, of higher quality, and of greater significance than if we fail to employ those habits. For more information on Habits of Mind, check out the video below!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually.
