Students started their day analyzing 5 articles about empathy. They were challenged to think deeply to connect what they learned about empathy to the ongoing theme of ethics. This understanding continued to grow throughout the day as opportunities to show empathy arose in our classroom and in the halls. This surely is an empathetic group!
Before lunch, we took a break from the challenging mental work to try a teamwork challenge. Students worked in groups of 4 to manipulate a marker and achieve goals that escalated in difficulty, starting with putting the marker into a cup.
The main unit of this quarter is The Brain, so after lunch students were introduced to the topic with a video and the completion of a Think, Puzzle, Explore chart where they list what the think they already know about the topic, what puzzles them about the topic, and how they might explore to figure out the answers to their questions.
This is a very theatrical group, so with our time at the end of the day, students developed some improvisational skits about what might happen if they suddenly developed a super human brain power!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
