Last week, students started research on a microbiology topic of their choosing. Topics ranged from tardigrades to slime molds to bacteriophages and archaea! I was incredibly impressed with the dedication and passion that the students put into their research and presentations. That is what makes teaching fun!
This week, students either finished their research or went above and beyond on their project in the morning. Then it was time to watch presentations. After each presentation, students practiced giving feedback to their peers through their portfolios. They practiced giving specific, positive feedback, and if they added anything critical, they had to add a positive observation or two to accompany it. Overall, the students did a great job at this with some practice.
Some students were able to complete their self-assessment in their Book Creator Portfolio, while others will need to complete that next week at the start of class. Definitely head over to the Book Creator library to check out your student's presentation!
I'm on the hunt for a few experts to join our class in person or via video chat. If you or someone you know would be interested, please let me know!
