Is there anything better than calculating impossibly large numbers with a calculator? Some 2nd graders don't think so! The class couldn't wait to get their hands on calculators to keep expanding their ever-growing Fibonacci sequence recordings.
This week, 2nd/3rd grade continued to delve into the idea of Beauty. We shared our experiences with the Fibonacci numbers over the last week. Some students made some incredible discoveries last week! After some rich discussion, we then practiced sparking our curiosity with images of mysterious natural phenomena. Students used these inspiring natural mysteries to launch a mini research project about a phenomena of their choice. Next week, we will continue this mini project and touch on some research skills.
Our 2nd and 3rd grade class has been so busy, it has been tricky for me to find times to take photos. However, I have no doubt that this will improve as students continue to develop independence in their work and confidence in their resources. Thank you for bearing with us!
Our GATE classroom has nine Chromebooks available to share, which means that 2nd and 3rd grade students (not from Lowell) do not need to bring a personal device or school-issued device for the First Quarter. However, students are welcome to bring a device to GATE if they are more comfortable doing so.
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras, a Tello drone kit, Rubiks Cubes, graphic novels, and more enriching art and tech! (I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
