Today the 1st graders started their career study! The students practiced whole-part relationship mapping as they broke down ingredients of familiar and new dishes. They worked with a partner to create a brace map of a dish and practiced the teamwork skills of compromise and using Rock, Paper, Scissors to resolve conflict.
They then got to work on their Book Creator portfolio to create an original pizza dish! They designed their pizza using SCAMPER strategies and then framed their pizza design in a brace map. Efficient workers added images to their design page.
Lastly, the students got to draw what a slice of their pizza will look like. The exciting thing about this is that some generous 3rd graders (who just finished a sewing unit) have volunteered to recreate the 1st graders' pizza designs as stuffies that will be gifted to the 1st graders by the end of the year! I love this inter-grade-level collaboration!
We are also in search of adults who would be willing to hold a video or in-person question and answer session or teach a simple lesson to our 1st graders about their job.
Adults who would be willing to video chat or stop by the 1st grade class and share about their career, especially if it is a STEM career! If you are willing to hold a Q and A with the students, I can design classwork to accompany your job. Or, if you would like to teach the students something, that's great too! Last year, we had fun learning about architecture, wildlife biology, computer coding, and several other careers. I can't wait to see what we can put together for the students this year!
As we begin our school year and face new challenges, we are seeking new ways to enrich your child's education both in person and virtually. Our current wish list includes a set of classroom cameras (~$100 ea) and Rubiks Cubes ($12)! Please click on the link below to donate to my Boise Foundation Account. [LOWELL/GATE/GABRIELLI,AUDREY]
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THOSE WHO ALREADY DONATED!
IT WILL BE PUT TO GOOD USE RIGHT AWAY!
(I'll start posting as soon as I have confirmed which students from each school are on the No Photo List. Thanks for your patience!)
